CALI offers the most comprehensive scar therapy service available in the Caribbean. Whether caused by injury, surgery, or burn, scars can be disfiguring. Scars look different form normal skin because scar tissueis made up of disorganised skin cells. As a result, scars may be different in color from normal skin, and do not have sweat glands or hair follicles.

The severity of a scar depends on many factors, including the size and depth of the wound, the blood supply to the area, and the thickness and color of the skin. Some people especially those with deeper skin tones have a tendency to produce prominent, raised scars called keloids.

The success of scar revision often depends on how soon after the incident the scar is treated and the type of scar. Some of the different types of scars include:

Atrophic scars - These scars are thin or flat.

Hypertrophic scars - Thick, red, raised and occur within the edges of the wound.

Keloid scars - These look like hypertrophic scars, but are firm and extend beyond the edges of the wound. Keloids can be swollen and often itch or hurt.

Contracture scars - Occur when large areas of skin are lost. The edges of the remaining skin pull tightly together, often restricting adjacent tendons or muscles.



Treatments we offer

Laser scar removal
- Acne scars and surgical scars may be a cause of a person's emotional and or physical pain and affect their quality of life. In severe cases, scars can even limit a person's mobility.. Laser scar removal from Palomar's state of the art 1540 laser offers a noninvasive solution that uses fractional laser technology to deliver rapid, reliable scar removal.
Our fractional laser technology is the driving power behind our acne and surgical scar removal procedure. We use pulses of laser light to coagulate scar tissue and trigger healthy new tissue to form in clients' skin. Healing time is minimal, infection risk is eliminated and little to no pain is felt.
Laser scar removal with Palomar is appropriate for use on all skin types, making ours the preferred method of scar removal for excellent clinical outcomes.

Steroid Therapy - Under medical supervision, steroid injections into the scar can help to flatten and soften the appearance of keloid or hypertrophic scars. The steroid is injected into the scar itself. Side effects of this treatment are negligible once the injections are done by an experienced practitioner who is familiar with the dose required. This treatment is usually repeated at four- to six-week intervals.

Silicone Therapy - Under medical supervision, silicone therapy is an amazing option for the management and prevention of abnormal scars such as hypertrophic scars and keloids. Silicone dressings and gels create a waterproof membrane that acts like an extra layer of skin. Helps to soften, flatten and smooth the scar while maintaining the moisture balance and elasticity of the adjacent skin.

Pressure Therapy - Pressure therapy has been the preferred conservative management for both the prevention and treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids since the 1970s. We provide special pressure garments which are predominantly used for the prevention of hypertrophic burn scar formation.

Scar Revision - We provide various surgical techniques for scar revision which are designed to make the scar as smooth and invisible as possible. This can involve recreating the incision, moving skin around or even moving the scar to make it less visible. What would work best for your specific scar will depend on where it is located and how it looks. Dr Narinesingh will evaluate your scars and discuss the options for revision surgery.
